Akamai Announces Executive and Board Appointments
CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts, August 11, 1999 -- Akamai Technologies, which operates a global Internet content delivery service that speeds up Web performance, announced today two appointments to its executive team and Board of Directors. Robert Ball has been selected as the company's Vice President and General Counsel. In addition, Arthur Bilger, currently a member of Akamai's Board of Directors, has been elected to the position of non-executive Vice Chairman. Both appointments are effective immediately.
Adding to Akamai's recruitment of top-notch business professionals, Mr. Ball will oversee all of the Company's legal activities and will be instrumental in the development of the company's strategic partner relationships. Most recently, he was a partner with Alston & Bird, LLP, one of the nations' leading firms for representing clients in Internet-related and eCommerce issues. At the law firm, Mr. Ball focused on electronic commerce and Internet-related technology transactions and chaired Alston & Bird's Electronic Commerce Practice Team. He has also been an active member of the American Bar Association's Cyberspace Law Committee, the Information Security Committee of the American Bar Association's Science and Technology section, the Internet Council, and the Northern Virginia Technology Council. He is also Editor-in-Chief of The Electronic Banking and Commerce Law Report.
Mr. Bilger is an active member of Akamai's Board since 1998, focusing his energies on the company's strategic and financial activities. His career is centered on work in the media and financial investment communities. Previously, Mr. Bilger was President, Chief Operating Officer and a member of the Board of Directors of New World Communications Group Incorporated, a company engaged in television broadcasting and production. Prior to New World, he was a founding principal of Apollo Advisors L.P., which were engaged in the investment of capital in acquisitions and corporate restructuring. Mr. Bilger also served as executive vice president, co-head of Corporate Finance and director of Drexel Burnham Lambert Incorporated. He is currently a director of The Mandalay Resort Group and style365.com, Inc.
