Akamai and Cacheflow to Integrate Cache Interface Standard
Akamai is teaming with CacheFlow to achieve interoperability between CacheFlow Internet Caching Appliances and Akamai's Internet content delivery service, FreeFlow. The added functionality will be derived from the development of a new standard for communications called the Cache Interface Protocol. The new protocol will be made freely available to facilitate interoperability with caching devices. The new software will enable caches to store content currently carried on the Akamai network and report on performance metrics - such as the number of hits served - to Web site owners, through Akamai's content delivery services. This development will expand the level of integration between caches and content networks, delivering performance and management benefits to eBusinesses and service providers.
"CacheFlow is excited to be working with Akamai to enable our Internet Caching Appliances and its Internet content delivery service to work together closely," said Stu Aaron, vice president of marketing and product management at CacheFlow. "CacheFlow's line of caching products are used in many ISP and enterprise networks that would benefit from accessing 'Akamaized' content locally."
CacheFlow Internet Caching Appliances locally store and serve the Internet pages most often requested by users, while simultaneously monitoring the source of those pages for content changes. As a result, the CacheFlow solution improves end-user response time by up to 10-fold, ensures the freshness and accuracy of content, and more efficiently utilizes existing bandwidth.
Each product in the CacheFlow line is designed to satisfy different network needs, such as differences in workload, scalability and high-availability requirements. CacheFlow products install in minutes, are self-tuning, and require minimal administration.
