Network providers benefit from Akamai's scaleable services platform to deliver differentiated services to customers

CAMBRIDGE, MA, November 30, 1999 -- Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM), which offers a global, high-performance service for the delivery of Internet content and applications, today announced its network has grown to include major network providers across the globe. Akamai's newest network partners, including AT&T, BT plc, Digex, GlobalCenter, GTE Internetworking, NaviSite, PSINet, Qwest Communications International, Inc., Telecom Italia, Teleglobe, Universo Online and Verio have chosen to partner with Akamai for its scaleable, value-added services platform that enables them to develop differentiated services for their customers.

Akamai's comprehensive, multi-carrier network is the largest globally distributed network for Internet content delivery with over 100 network providers. Akamai has servers in more than 30 countries, including recently added emerging high-transit international countries such as Argentina, Brazil, China, Mexico, Norway, Portugal and Turkey. Additionally, Akamai recognizes the growth of the Internet beyond its terrestrial roots and has formed new partnerships with satellite providers including Loral CyberStar and SkyCache. Akamai has also formed relationships with broadband leaders Covad Communications, DSL.net, Network Access Solutions, NorthPoint Communications, QS Communications AG, Rhythms NetConnections Inc. and RoadRunner to embrace all types of transit and connectivity.

Akamai's network provider partners have access to Akamai's open, scaleable value-added services platform for the creation and delivery of differentiated services for their Web-centric customers. With the introduction of Akamai's Open Cache Interface, developed in partnership with leading cache vendors, Akamai enables these network providers to add Akamai's technology to existing cache technology.

"Akamai is attacking one of the 'Net's big problems - giving end users a great experience. We're doing the same by building the world's fastest IP network, and are pleased to be working with Akamai to leverage our network and make their customers' experience the best," said Kathleen Earley, president, Internet Services, AT&T.

"We are very excited about our relationship with Akamai. As one of the leading global carriers, embedding content and applications in our own network cloud is a competitive advantage for us," said John Tomany, general manager, Web Hosting and Co-Location Services, BT plc.
