Leading Commerce Service Provider Enhances Customer Content Delivery with Akamai

CAMBRIDGE, MA and SUNNYVALE, CA - December 13, 1999 - Akamai Technologies (NASDAQ: AKAM), which offers a global, high-performance service for the delivery of Internet content and applications, and GlobalCenter Inc., a Global Crossing Company and the leading Commerce Service Provider, today announced the availability of Akamai's FreeFlowSM service to GlobalCenter customers. GlobalCenter has selected FreeFlow as part of its Commerce Service Solution, the only integrated commerce solution designed for scale in the global economy.

As a part of GlobalCenter's Commerce Service Solution, Akamai's Internet content delivery service improves customer site performance and reliability in an "on-demand" environment. GlobalCenter is presently making FreeFlow available to its entire customer base.

"As the market demands a scalable approach to Web initiatives, we see the Akamai/GlobalCenter relationship as ideal for offering a comprehensive solution for content providers," said Earl Galleher, vice president, sales and support for Akamai. "We look forward to our ongoing relationship with GlobalCenter as one of its premier service providers."

"Akamai leads all other content-delivery methods by enabling our customers to embed their content deeper in other networks where end-users work, live and play," said Paul Santinelli, vice president of technology for GlobalCenter. "Our agreement with Akamai helps us accomplish our top priority: to speed up content delivery to our customers' end-users."

The strategy for the Commerce Service Solution is comprised of four areas that are critical to ensure business availability and scalability: connectivity, data centers, "on-demand" utility applications and professional services. By utilizing the GlobalCenter solution, companies whose business models rely on the Internet, get enterprise class utility applications and services at a significantly reduced total cost-of-ownership with less capital outlay and fewer internal IT staff requirements. GlobalCenter's Commerce Service Solution provides businesses the Internet infrastructure to ensure high availability, flexibility and scalability necessary to compete in the digital economy.

Akamai's global Internet content and applications delivery service, FreeFlow, provides Web properties with secure, dependable, high-performance delivery of their rich media content and Internet applications through services that are scalable, easily implemented and easily managed. By moving content within a geographically distributed network closer to end users, and then intelligently routing requests, Akamai's service eliminates problems caused by Web congestion and network bottlenecks.
