Akamai's FreeFlowSM Service Successfully Supported Record-Breaking Surge of VictoriasSecret.com Visitors Before, During and After the Event

CAMBRIDGE, MA - June 1, 2000-- Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the foremost provider of global, high performance services for the delivery of Internet content, streaming media, and applications, today announced that its FreeFlow service quickly and reliably delivered rich and engaging Web site content for the recent Victoria's Secret Cannes 2000 Fashion Show Webcast. For visitors from nearly 140 countries that accessed VictoriasSecret.com on the day of the event, FreeFlow served over 15 million requests for Akamaized content during peak traffic periods.

To assist in keeping Victoria's Secret's web site fully optimized throughout the event, FreeFlow delivered select content for VictoriasSecret.com, as well as all content for the company's eLounge site, which contained special edition fashion show-related content including glamorous photos, video files and advertisements. Utilizing Akamai's broad deployment of 4,000 edge servers, visitors received fast, reliable access to VictoriasSecret.com during peak traffic periods as FreeFlow delivered content at up to 1,700 hits per second. The high performance enabled by FreeFlow helped to make the Victoria's Secret online fashion show event a success because all consumers, whether logging on to watch the live webcast, to explore VictoriasSecret.com, or to access Victoria's Secret's eLounge, were fully serviced.

"As part of our commitment to delivering a superior customer experience across all channels, our goal was to ensure that visitors to VictoriasSecret.com continued to enjoy rapid, reliable delivery of content, even during peak traffic periods occurring in tandem with large-scale events such as our Cannes 2000 Fashion Show Webcast," said Tim Plzak, Director, Advanced Technology Planning at Intimate Brands, Inc., parent company of Victoria's Secret. "Akamai's specialization in delivering content with enhanced speed and performance, as well as its high level of commitment to this project throughout the entire process, significantly contributed to our success in extending the Victoria's Secret brand to customers across the globe during our Fashion Show Webcast," continued Plzak.

"Akamai has become the natural choice for leading content providers such as Victoria's Secret when broadcasting large-scale web events. We're thrilled to have been chosen as a technology partner for Victoria's Secret's largest Web endeavor ever," said Earl Galleher, vice president, worldwide sales and support, Akamai. "Akamai's technology and our ability to handle audiences of any size at any time has proven itself over and over, and as a result, our strong track record of success now speaks for itself."
