United Way Honors Akamai for Exemplary Corporate Support
Cambridge, MA, June 7, 2000 -- The United Way of Massachusetts Bay yesterday presented Akamai Technologies, Inc. with the President's Award, its highest recognition of excellence in supporting United Way and the community at large. Akamai employees contributed more than $37,000 through a corporate-wide initiative for United Way of Massachusetts Bay.
"We are especially appreciative of Akamai for conducting a United Way campaign so early in its corporate history, and during the busy time period of its initial public offering," said Marian L. Heard, president and chief executive officer, United Way of Massachusetts Bay. "We'd also like to applaud the long-standing support of Akamai's chairman and CEO, George Conrades, who's been a loyal friend to United Way and continues to reach out to other leaders in the technology sector on our behalf."
In addition to spearheading United Way campaigns at previous positions with GTE Internetworking and BBN, Conrades has been a featured speaker at United Way events and was instrumental in the creation of United Way's award-winning Web site.
"United Way of Massachusetts Bay has leveraged the strength of the community to make a tremendous, positive impact on the lives of many," said Conrades. "It's our pleasure to further their efforts in any way we can."
