Munich, August 04, 2000 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the foremost provider of global, high performance services for the delivery of Internet content, streaming media, and applications, was choosen by Met@box AG, full-service provider of InternetTV with its own portal for multimedia television and information content, for the delivery of the four-hour shareholders meeting via the Internet.

During the four-hour delivery of the Met@box shareholders' meeting, Akamai gave all broadband and narrow-band users the opportunity to participate directly in the announcement of business results and in the podium discussion. Visitors to the homepage could also participate actively by entering a chatroom offered on the homepage. Met@box provided Akamai with the streams for both Apple Quicktime and in Windows- Media format.

The service shows impressive progress with respect to reliability and quality in the delivery of live broadcast and video-on-demand. In connection with the event, Akamai delivered around four hours of media content via the Met@box site.

Stefan Domeyer, managing chairman of Met@box AG, commented the day after the meeting: "By allowing Akamai to deliver our shareholders' meeting, we followed the Met@box credo of providing our customers new ways of communicating information over the Internet. Aside from the 750 participants in Hildesheim, investors and other interested persons not present could inform themselves about our business figures and visions for the future. From the very beginning, Akamai's technology guaranteed the successful delivery of our meeting."

Wolfgang Stähle, President Akamai Europe, added: "The current enthusiasm around the stock market in Germany is booming, and this places new demands on the Internet medium. By delivering the Met@box meeting, we can present an entirely new form of the shareholder value. Every shareholder can participate live and actively in "his" company's most important meeting, without actually having to be there. The fact that with these live-streams, we are able to take away the "bottle neck" of delivering moving pictures, only goes to show the power of our technology."

Akamai's end-to-end streaming media delivery and services, delivered from its EdgeAdvantageTM platform, were instrumental in this live broadcast. Once at an entry point, Akamai's proprietary SteadyStreamSM technology split the signal into multiple streams and sent them across the Akamai network. Akamai's advanced algorithms calculate the optimal route as often as necessary to deliver the cleanest stream possible.

In addition to its easy implementation, Content Providers also receive a complete product assortment for on-demand and broadcast meetings. Akamai is the first provider in the field of streaming that supports all the standard streaming formats.
