"In addition to country and state data, Akamai provides us with the ability to do targeting based on MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) and DMA (Designated Marketing Area). Coupled with our use of Akamai's services for content delivery and global traffic management, this added capability will help us better meet the needs of advertisers utilizing our network."
"TV.TV's Content and Advertising Partners value our use of Akamai's geo-location technology for enforcing geographic syndication rules within TV.TV's Media Distribution Service," said Dan Mayer, senior vice president of business development, TV.TV.
TV.TV provides a technological and legal framework enabling content owners, websites, advertisers, and access providers to partner toward delivering video content to broadband Internet audiences. TV.TV is a division of IDT Corporation (NYSE: IDT).
"The ability to characterize undeclared site traffic by geography and bandwidth has unleashed a wave of new content, applications and business models on the Web," said John Shumway, vice president, platform services, Akamai. "The market for geo-location and bandwidth characterization services has exploded over the last nine months and, with its customer base, extensive network and key industry partnerships, Akamai has found itself in an ideal position to assemble, analyze and deliver valuable new services to a growing list of customers."
With its industry-leading, global network of more than 8,000 edge servers and continual mapping of the Internet, Akamai has an exceptional ability to share real-time network knowledge for the delivery of relevant content. EdgeScape Pro takes the capabilities of Akamai's EdgeScape service to the next level for content providers wishing to leverage more granular data for content customization. Content providers, online advertising companies, application service providers, and Internet infrastructure providers can benefit from EdgeScape Pro's ability to determine the U.S. and select international cities from which end users are accessing Web sites. In addition, the breadth of the Akamai network allows EdgeScape Pro to identify an end user's actual measured throughput and enable the selective delivery of high bandwidth content to users whose connection can support it.
Akamai correlates geographic and network information to IP addresses, enabling the customization of content without compromising end user privacy. As part of Akamai's integrated EdgeSuite offering, EdgeScape Pro assists the delivery of customized, dynamic content through the construction of Web pages from component pieces that can be targeted and delivered from locations optimized for each end user. As an independent service, EdgeScape Pro is easily implemented and the data is automatically and continuously updated, ensuring that customers always have access to accurate, up-to-date information. Akamai also leverages relationships with more than 470 network partners and looks to continually enhance the EdgeScape Pro database as the Akamai network grows. EdgeScape Pro:
