George Conrades Elected to American Academy of Arts and Sciences
Cambridge, MA - May 24, 2001 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), the leading provider of distributed application and content delivery services, announced today that Chairman and CEO George Conrades has been elected as a new member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. Recognized for proven leadership in the field of information services and business, Mr. Conrades joins the Academy's distinguished membership of scholars, scientists, artists, business executives, educators, and public officials from around the world.
Founded in 1780, the Academy honors individuals in five broad categories: mathematics and physics, biological sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts, and public affairs and business. The competitive selection process seeks to recognize those who have made preeminent contributions to all scholarly fields and professions. The current membership of 3,600 Fellows and 600 Foreign Honorary Members features more than 150 Nobel laureates and 50 Pulitzer Prize winners. Among this year's new Fellows are former cabinet member Robert Rubin, composer and lyricist Stephen Joshua Sondheim, and World Wide Web inventor Tim Berners-Lee.
