SAP announces new ways of cooperation with its SAP Community, and relies on Akamai's content delivery services to broadcast events

Munich and Walldorf, Germany -- July 17, 2001 -- Akamai Technologies GmbH, a wholly owned subsidiary of Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading provider of distributed application and content delivery services, announced today that SAP AG will expand its relationship with Akamai. Since becoming a customer, SAP has used Akamai's streaming services to broadcast SAP events including the SAPPHIRE conferences in Lisbon and Orlando and the SAP E-Business Summit. The expanded agreement states that SAP will collaborate with Akamai in broadcasting further SAP events to the online community.

After the successful conclusion of the first joint project, last year's SAP E-Business Summit, Akamai was commissioned to stream further SAP events including the SAPPHIRE conferences in Lisbon and Orlando. Moving forward, SAP will use Akamai's streaming services to broadcast further SAPPHIRE conferences.

The SAP Community is SAP's innovative concept for closer, more effectively targeted communications and collaboration between customers, partners and employees of SAP, crossing corporate and national borders and limitations of time. The concept enables SAP to exploit the potential of the Internet as a technology and as a platform for state-of-the-art communications and the exchange of information.

Akamai's integrated suite of next-generation content delivery services represents an ideal basis for the successful realization of this potential. With solutions such as Akamai's streaming delivery offering, customers such as SAP AG can reach geographically dispersed audiences efficiently and cost effectively, while leveraging Akamai's globally distributed platform for high-performance, scalable, and reliable delivery of their corporate communications content. These factors are of critical importance for the successful use of streaming media for both on-demand and live events such as the SAPPHIRE conference.

Raimund Mollenhauer, SAP Global Director of Marketing Technology, comments, "SAP enables people to optimize collaboration across corporate boundaries – in other words, it enables customers, partners and employees to multiply their success by working together. This is the point where the SAP Community concept steps in with global events such as the SAP E-Business Summit or the SAPPHIRE conferences. In the New Economy, learning, networking and co-operations between e-business partners take place online more and more frequently, independent of geographical and temporal boundaries. The success of this concept is based on a scalable, 100% reliable transmission technology, as provided globally by Akamai."

Wolfgang Stähle, President of Akamai EMEA, explains, "The SAP Community is a concept that precisely demonstrates the benefits the Internet can offer companies and all parties involved. After last year's "technological playground" phase, we are now looking at a kind of technological consolidation. Traditional companies with solid business models like SAP AG are exploiting Web technologies for practical, cost-cutting applications - such as the web casts used in the SAP Community, to enhance communications. We are proud to make our services and our experience available to SAP to support this innovative concept."
