Companies integrate technologies to offer new solutions to customers

Providence, RI and Cambridge, MA - August 1, 2001 - Building upon their alliance first announced in March, Context Media, Inc., the leader in providing solutions for managing the distributed content infrastructure, and Akamai Technologies, Inc., (NASDAQ: AKAM), the leading provider of distributed application and content delivery services, today announced that the companies will collaborate on providing customers with the ability to better manage, share, customize, and control their content assets.

As part of the agreement, Context Media's EdgeShareTM software, which helps companies aggregate, package, distribute and control digital assets across the extended enterprise, will be leveraged as an added-value offering by Akamai to its customers. When used with Akamai's services, Context Media's EdgeShare - which allows companies to seamlessly manage and share content through the entire content infrastructure - will give companies the ability to syndicate content easily from different locations throughout an organization through one simple Web-based interface, eliminating the need for duplication and redundancy of content assets within the enterprise. The agreement provides both Akamai and Context Media with new capabilities that can help their customers achieve significant competitive advantage.

Under a separate agreement, Context Media has licensed Akamai's advanced IP characterization service, EdgeScapeSM Pro, which will enable Context Media to customize its Interchange Platform to bring Context Media customers unprecedented new capabilities to manage and distribute their content with powerful geography-based content delivery specifications. As a result of Context Media’s licensing of Akamai's EdgeScape Pro service, Interchange Platform users have new ways to control and customize their content distribution according to geographic specifications and bandwidth characterization, as well as powerful reporting capabilities to precisely track content based on geography, allowing companies to see which sites are generating the most views of content, and from where those viewers are coming.

"We're pleased to be expanding our relationship with Akamai through the powerful collaboration of our technologies," said Context Media CEO and President Dan Harple. "Context Media's EdgeShare is an ideal complement to Akamai's existing suite of content delivery services, and will provide Akamai customers new ways to leverage their content infrastructures for greater returns. Likewise, incorporating Akamai's EdgeScape Pro functionality into our platform provides increasingly new levels of content control and customization for our customers, giving them a distinct competitive advantage."

"Akamai consistently seeks new methods to bring our customers valuable solutions to manage their content and applications efficiently and effectively," said Chris Turner, vice president, worldwide channel and international sales, Akamai. "The incorporation of our respective technologies provides customers unparalleled ways to enhance their business communications delivery."

Context Media is a reseller of Akamai's content delivery services. The companies plan further co-marketing and sales activities.
