Former Chief Scientist of AT&T Labs elevates role in working with Akamai management team

Cambridge, MA - August 27, 2001 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), the leading provider of distributed application and content delivery services, today announced the election of Ronald L. Graham to its Board of Directors. Dr. Graham previously served as an Akamai Board of Advisors member, and offers a wealth of expertise and experience in computer science, mathematics, and engineering. He is currently the Irwin and Joan Jacobs Endowed Chair of Computer and Information Science at the University of California at San Diego, and former Chief Scientist for AT&T Labs.

Prior to his role as Chief Scientist for AT&T Labs, Dr. Graham served as Director of Information Sciences at AT&T Bell Laboratories for over thirty years. He has held numerous professorships in mathematics and computer science with institutions such as Rutgers University, Princeton University, and California Institute of Technology, as well as leadership positions among professional organizations including the American Mathematical Society, National Academy of Sciences, and American Association of the Advancement of Science. Dr. Graham's current mathematical interests include combinatorics, number theory, graph theory, discrete and computational geometry, and theoretical computer science, and he belongs to a number of editorial boards in these disciplines.

Dr. Graham holds a Ph.D. and Master's degree in Mathematics from the University of California at Berkeley, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Physics from the University of Alaska at Fairbanks. He has won numerous awards in the field of mathematics, including the Polya Prize in Combinatorics.

Dr. Graham joins Akamai's Board of Directors including George Conrades, chairman and CEO, Akamai; Art Bilger, vice-chairman; Tom Leighton, chief scientist, Akamai; Danny Lewin, chief technology officer, Akamai; Todd Dagres, general partner, Battery Ventures; and the recently-elected William Halter, former acting commissioner of Social Security.
