Premier Latin American Portal Chooses Akamai EdgeSuite Service
Serving a broad Spanish-speaking audience in Mexico and the United States, EsMas.com aims to blend its unique, high-quality content with the latest advancements in Internet technology to provide a comprehensive rich-media portal. EsMas.com deployed the Akamai EdgeSuite service to increase site performance while reducing the constraints on its centralized Web infrastructure by off-loading the assembly and delivery of more than 50% of its mission-critical content to Akamai's globally distributed network of servers, optimally located near end users. As a result, EsMas.com is able to avoid the costly build-out of its existing infrastructure, and yet leverage the Akamai network to scale on demand as its audience grows.
EsMas.com also selected the Akamai EdgeSuite service to ensure capacity for unforeseen traffic increases. Following the events of September 11, EsMas.com experienced a seven-fold increase in traffic to its site, as users relied on the Internet for breaking news and information. The Akamai EdgeSuite service enabled EsMas.com to support this heightened level of traffic with unwavering reliability and performance, including the delivery of HTML, rich media and video streams.
