The Federal Bureau of Investigation Deploys Akamai EdgeSuite
"Improving security and ensuring business continuity of e-government initiatives are paramount for state and federal agencies today, and we're pleased that EdgeSuite met the FBI.gov's requirements for a multitude of critical Web business needs," said Michael Ruffolo, executive vice president, global sales, services, and marketing, Akamai. "EdgeSuite's decentralized data delivery approach ensures that all forms of content on FBI.gov are consistently available to the global public."
With EdgeSuite, the FBI.gov site is able to effectively respond to unexpected increases in site traffic by off-loading the delivery of the site to Akamai's distributed edge computing platform. In addition, FBI.gov has reaped notable performance increases since deploying EdgeSuite in September 2001, claiming one of the top 3 positions on Keynote's Government 40 Internet Performance Index for the past 22 weeks.
The Akamai EdgeSuite service provides government agencies with the reliable and secure delivery of dynamic content and applications; content customization for ensuring a personalized end-user experience; the ability to scale cost effectively regardless of traffic spikes or growth in the global customer base; and the guarantee of 100% uptime.
About The Federal Bureau of Investigation The FBI is the principal investigative arm of the United States Department of Justice. It has the authority and responsibility to investigate specific crimes assigned to it. The FBI also is authorized to provide other law enforcement agencies with cooperative services, such as fingerprint identification, laboratory examinations, and police training.
