Toyota.com and Lexus.com to utilize EdgeSuiteSM across sites to enhance performance of online sales and marketing initiatives

Cambridge, MA - May 1, 2002 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKAM), a leading provider of secure, outsourced e-business infrastructure services and software, today announced that Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) U.S.A., Inc. implemented Akamai's EdgeSuite for Site Delivery solution on its customer-facing Web properties, Toyota.com and Lexus.com, to cost-effectively scale its Web operations and maintain top site performance for customers.

To extend its reputation for world-class quality to its Web-based audience, TMS requires a distributed infrastructure that can readily scale to meet widely dispersed user demands. In addition, with numerous online marketing campaigns planned to promote new vehicles, TMS needs a flexible and reliable platform upon which to deliver its highly interactive and constantly evolving Web properties with superior performance and with reduced complexity. Akamai, in partnership with IBM e-business Hosting Services, met TMS's needs for an efficient whole site delivery solution that offered the benefits of increased performance, on-demand scalability, and 100% site availability, as well as streaming media capabilities to deliver its many automobile promotions.

"Akamai's distributed content approach results in better performance than traditional sites, so pages take less time to display," said Jeff Stieglitz, Global Architecture Strategist for Toyota Motor Sales. "EdgeSuite also costs less than conventional hosting methods, which works well for us because Toyota is always looking to improve quality while reducing costs. It's very compelling for high-volume sites like ours."

"We're excited to begin a relationship with Toyota, one of the most recognized brand names around the world, and support its objective to provide efficient, reliable delivery of business-critical information to its Web audiences," said Michael Ruffolo, executive vice president, Global Sales, Services, and Marketing, Akamai. "Akamai looks forward to helping Toyota maintain its trusted brand with its online customers through its ability to provide high-performance delivery of its Web operations."

TMS purchased the Akamai EdgeSuite solution through IBM. EdgeSuite provides the reliable and secure delivery of dynamic content and applications; content customization for ensuring a personalized end-user experience; the ability to scale cost effectively regardless of traffic spikes or growth in the global customer base; and the guarantee of 100% uptime. As a Web marketing foundation, the EdgeSuite service helps to distribute and manage the online component of an integrated marketing campaign, enabling businesses to simplify planning, deliver a quality customer experience, and effectively measure the results of a campaign.
