Akamai fortifies e-business infrastructure and mitigates distributed denial of service concerns for world's leading online payment provider

CAMBRIDGE, MA and MONTREAL, QUEBEC - February 24, 2003 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), a provider of products and services that enable the world's leading enterprises and government agencies to extend and control their e-business infrastructure, today announced that PaySystems Corporation, the world's leading online payment processing solutions provider, has selected the Akamai EdgeSuiteSM service to ensure 100% uptime and reliability of its Web-based business solution.

Offering an advanced payment processing solution for Internet merchants worldwide, PaySystems requires that its customers be able to process their transactions anytime, from anywhere, without interruption. Akamai's global network will supplement and protect PaySystems' existing infrastructure, by providing an on-demand, scalable platform enabling PaySystems to withstand even the most rigorous of e-business requirements in the face of planned or unforeseen events. Most recently, the Akamai EdgeSuite service enabled PaySystems to maintain 100% availability during the January 25th emergence of the Sapphire worm that disrupted Internet traffic.

"PaySystems chose Akamai because it was able to deliver the availability, reliability, and security that our customers require," said Moses Serapio, CTO at PaySystems Corporation. "Akamai provides a very unique method for extending our existing infrastructure, and thus protecting our online operations against the threat of downtime. The partnership with Akamai will allow PaySystems to focus on what it does best - deliver worldwide payment solutions to merchants around the globe."

As part of a long-term Akamai EdgeSuite solution, PaySystems will take advantage of a combination of Akamai's advanced features including:

Enhanced DNS - Provides a distributed network of DNS servers to ensure that queries are handled quickly and without fail in the event of unplanned downtime due to server failure, network congestion and outages.

Secure, Whole-Site Content Delivery - Offers the industry's only whole-site delivery of all SSL content, including transactions, with unmatched performance, reliability and scalability.

Site Failover - Enables several options for automatic site failover, including a new option for serving an entire backup version of the site that is stored on the Akamai network.

"The availability of an enterprise's Web operations is vital to building and maintaining its brand equity and customer loyalty, ensuring communications with customers and partners, and ultimately generating revenue," said Michael Ruffolo, executive vice president, Global Sales, Services and Marketing, Akamai. "As a leader in online payment processing solutions, PaySystems' commitment to its customers includes always available Web-based solutions. Akamai's massively distributed global network provides a scalable and on-demand, shock-absorbing effect to protect PaySystems' infrastructure and preserve customer confidence."
