Leading systems integrators and digital agencies including Blast Radius, eBuilt, Media Catalyst, Molecular, R/GA, and Semaphore Partners to design J2EE applications for on demand deployment with Akamai EdgeComputing

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - June 23, 2003 - Akamai Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: AKAM), a provider of services that enable the world's leading enterprises and government agencies to extend and control their e-business infrastructure, today announced the Akamai Edge Architecture Design Partner Program, providing systems integrators (SIs) and digital agencies with the tools and know-how to build repeatable, next-generation architectures for the deployment of Web-based applications that leverage Akamai's global network and new EdgeComputingSM service.

As an Edge Architecture Design Partner, agencies providing application development services receive the training and tools to address the following issues facing site architects and designers:

Capacity Planning - instead of guessing audience size, traffic patterns, traffic peaks, or the geographic distribution of users, SI partners can leverage Akamai's network of thousands of servers to deliver Web applications and content, alleviating the cost, complexity, and time-to-market challenges associated with deployment. Akamai's technology is designed for reliable and on demand application delivery without the risk of over- or under-provisioning site infrastructures.

Scale and Performance - enable Web applications to scale and execute consistently with quick performance and high reliability despite geographic and/or Internet bottlenecks, resulting in improved usability. Akamai empowers design partners with the ability to create Web applications that can be distributed on demand across a network of more than 15,000 servers, supporting both everyday Web application traffic and spikes in demand.

Time-to-Market - application deployment is often limited by infrastructure readiness. Designing Web applications to leverage Akamai's EdgeComputing and EdgeSuiteTM services ensures site architects the ability to roll out applications for their customers as they are needed, on demand, without concern for time-intensive infrastructure build-out and maintenance.

Build and Deploy More Web Applications - to deploy Web applications without additional infrastructure enables a higher percentage of the IT budget to be directed to the development of more applications that derive incremental business benefits.

Edge Architecture Design Partners are enabled to build customer solutions that leverage Akamai's distributed edge services including EdgeSuite, for content and application delivery, content targeting, and business intelligence, and EdgeComputing, enabling J2EE Web applications to scale on demand. The charter partners of the program include Blast Radius, eBuilt, ecom enterprises, EURO RSCG Interaction, Media Catalyst, Molecular, R/GA, Semaphore Partners, and WinMill Software, Inc.

"Akamai is aligning our efforts with today's leading systems integrators to break down the bottlenecks associated with deploying Web-based applications,” said Michael Ruffolo, eexecutive vvice ppresident, Global Sales, Services and Marketing, Akamai. "Akamai's Edge Architecture Design Partners are at the forefront of developing J2EE applications that will have instant access to 'on demand' scale, reach, and reliability. We look forward to working closely with each of these companies to provide the application deployment platform on which these solutions are brought to market."

"Akamai is enabling us to develop more of the sort of highly interactive Web applications that fire our imagination - because our clients don't need to worry about infrastructure investment," said Hans Howarth, director at Media Catalyst. "We see EdgeComputing as offering many compelling business reasons for companies with high or unpredictable Web traffic to extend their e-business and marketing tools. With relatively low cost and impact to our client's origin environment, we delivered a highly scalable and extendable solution which offers a richer and more stable experience to their consumers, while at the same time achieving significant infrastructure and maintenance savings."

"R/GA develops high-profile applications and websites that attract millions of visitors," said John Mayo-Smith, vice president of technology at R/GA, an Interpublic Company. "Akamai helps us scale on demand so we can focus our efforts on developing innovative and creative solutions for our clients."

"There are such exciting opportunities with Akamai's edge capabilities to deploy and scale applications across their platform," said Rodney Aiglstorfer, national director of technology for Semaphore Partners. "I can envision a number of our clients that would see a significant savings in using Akamai."
