Akamai Media Delivery Solution Adds Digital Rights Management to Create an Integrated Offering
With the addition of DRM, Akamai is further expanding the end-to-end nature of its AMD solution, already in use by hundreds of global digital Media & Entertainment companies. Akamai has developed services to address the needs of its media clients, including:
"More content is being converted into, or stored in, digital format as companies see the potential for new revenue streams," said Michael McGuire, Research Director of Gartner's Industries' Media Team. "With that comes a critical need to secure, protect and monetize assets. Media companies should look to an end-to-end solution that offers a flexible media delivery platform with an integrated approach to digital rights management."
Building on Microsoft's Windows Media Digital Rights Management (DRM), Akamai is one of the first global service providers to offer an integrated content delivery platform and license delivery capability. Akamai License Delivery for Windows Media DRM allows owners to protect their content with end-user access control rules over the Internet. The solution serves as a building block for monetization via a variety of consumer payment models.
"The new Akamai Media Delivery solution, built on industry-leading Windows Media DRM technology, takes a generational leap forward in enabling businesses to monetize their digital media assets," said Kevin Unangst, director for Windows Digital Media at Microsoft Corp. "This is an exciting development in our longstanding relationship with Akamai that will benefit our mutual customers worldwide."
Akamai License Delivery for Windows Media DRM provides companies more flexibility for monetizing Windows Media-based content and protecting digital assets from misuse and misappropriation, with the scalability to support the growing demand for digital media and entertainment content.
"Akamai's Download and DRM solutions allow Rediff to support song downloads from our site," said Jasmeet Singh, VP of Strategic Alliances, Rediff. "Akamai gives us the tools to manage, secure, control and report media file usage and ensure only authorized users are accessing files.
