An Akamai customer since 2003, France Televisions counts on Akamai to deliver between 300,000 and 400,000 units of content every day ranging from free content such as press reviews, TV news, interactive games or breaking news to pay per view content and now Video On Demand (VOD) series. During popular events, such as the French Tennis Master at Roland-Garros, France Televisions registered up to 10,000 paying viewers from all over the world who could follow the competition on 7 different courts—all without adding infrastructure or worrying about traffic peaks.
In November 2005, French national TV network France 2, broadcasted the highly anticipated series, “The Doomed Kings.” The day after the broadcast, viewers who missed the TV broadcast were able to download and view episodes on their PC using Video on Demand. France Televisions chose Akamai Technologies, Inc. to manage both the video streaming and digital rights management, resulting in both seamless content delivery and measurable ROI for this unique integrated media event. Through Akamai License Delivery, France Televisions can easily set the parameters of the license to view such content, such as the amount of time the license is active, and receive in-depth, accurate reporting on the content. The result? A more effective way to monetize online content that will lead to more robust offerings in the future, and a relationship that works on all levels.
"As we make plans to put even more content online we face the dual problem of rights and costs. We need a solution that works on all levels. For this, we trust Akamai. They are not just a technology company. Their team is skilled, tuned, receptive and very close to us."
