Founded in 1991 with corporate offices in Europe and the USA, Grisoft develops and distributes software solutions that provide protection from computer viruses. The company distributes its AVG Anti-Virus products and updates to approximately 30 million home, small office, and enterprise users around the world via the Internet. Grisoft has always monitored its Web site performance and availability; in 2001 it identified a problem: its site response time was getting worse, especially for its international customers, at the same time as its customer base was growing along in response to virus threats. Grisoft executives needed a solution that would ensure reliable delivery of software updates to current customers, support its aggressive plans for growth, and handle any major demands placed on its infrastructure as a result of a wide-scale virus outbreak.
The company evaluated a number of solution providers and decided on Akamai, owing to the availability and reliability of Akamai’s network and the power of Akamai’s Electronic Software Delivery solution. Grisoft typically releases at least one AVG antivirus update per day when necessary, resulting in as many as 10,000,000 downloads per day—up to 300 per year for each customer. The Akamai solution ensures a high rate of successful downloads—even in geographies with poor-quality Internet infrastructure. This keeps viruses at bay—and helps Grisoft keep a growing number of global customers happy.
"Because of Akamai Electronic Software Delivery, we’ve been able to ensure timely delivery of critical updates and double our customer base in just one year, all without investing in additional infrastructure or worrying about our scalability. That alone is a testament to the value of the solution"
