
When Tourism New Zealand launched its "100% Pure New Zealand" campaign, it knew that the PureNZ.com Web site would play a prominent role in attracting visitors. Featuring a variety of rich media and travel tools, the PureNZ.com Web site was a success from the start, promoted heavily through worldwide media and events. This success placed major stress on the existing fixed infrastructure, resulting in slow page downloads for end users. Tourism New Zealand looked to Akamai for a solution that would ensure strong download performance and 100% uptime for a rapidly growing, content rich marketing site.
By extending their current Web infrastructure with Akamai EdgeSuite, Tourism New Zealand (TNZ) was able to dramatically improve download time for their global users—despite the addition of interactive features such as video, interactive games, and Flash, which normally weaken site performance and require increased infrastructure. Performance issues resolved, the client sought to gain better insight into site traffic and visitor behavior to improve ROI. Akamai responded with the WebTrends On Demand Web analytics service, giving tourism officials incredible insight into the behaviors and preferences of visitors, with more than 200 standard reports and easy report customization.
