Akamai FTP Downloads provides hosted storage and delivery of files over file transfer protocol. Using Akamai's globally-distributed platform, it delivers high performance and on-demand scalability and features:

  • Forced read-only access through a trap for the "anonymous" account name
  • In-place modification of files during upload
  • FTP upload extensions to verify file integrity
  • Real time and historical reporting – number of logins, number of files downloaded, and number of bytes delivered. Raw log files are also available.

How it Works

First, content is uploaded to your secure directory on Akamai NetStorage. There it is replicated and distributed across Akamai's NetStorage infrastructure. Akamai publishes a link to your content using a unique hostname that directs end user DNS lookups to query Akamai's dynamic DNS-based mapping mechanism. We then identify an optimal route and use an Akamai server close to the end user to deliver the content.
